COMMENTARIES ON FOR-PD

  • “In my 8th grade math class, students often have a hard time comprehending the text, especially when they are dealing with new information. I will use the Reciprocal Teaching Strategy: Predicting, Questioning, Clarifying, Summarizing, and Instruction for Chapter 6 " Multi-Step Equations and Inequalities" along with the "SQ3R" graphic organizer…which stands for "Survey, Question, Read, Retell, Review to help with comprehending the chapter.”~ Mathematics Teacher, FOR-PD Participant
  • “In order to teach this vocabulary to students, I first introduce them to the terms through reading activities in which we read aloud and I could help them with the pronunciation. I break the terms down phonetically to help them sound the words out. To help them become familiar with the definitions, I have them do "Picture Vocabulary,” in which they are to draw a picture of the definition rather than copy the meaning. This will also help me to assess whether they truly understand what the term relates to.” ~Science Teacher, FOR-PD Participant
