COMMENTARIES ON FOR-PD
-
“I use the Generating Questions Strategy because science is all about asking questions. Since I am a science person, I know how important it is to develop good questioning skills. This is the case for any subject. Students should be able to ask “why?’ Reading is similar to science. You need to be able to pull information out of the text and ask question in order to increase comprehension.”~ Science Teacher, FOR-PD Participant

“In order to teach this vocabulary to students, I first introduce them to the terms through reading activities in which we read aloud and I could help them with the pronunciation. I break the terms down phonetically to help them sound the words out. To help them become familiar with the definitions, I have them do "Picture Vocabulary,” in which they are to draw a picture of the definition rather than copy the meaning. This will also help me to assess whether they truly understand what the term relates to." ~ Science Teacher, FOR-PD Participant
