Happy New Year from FOR-PD!

FOR-PD continues in its efforts to advance K-12 educators' knowledge about reading and reading instruction through effective online professional development. This semester we are servicing 1701 preK-12 educators in our state!

What I have come to realize is that reading is such an essential skill to all content areas. • “In order to teach this vocabulary to students, I first introduce them to the terms through reading activities in which we read aloud and I could help them with the pronunciation. I break the terms down phonetically to help them sound the words out. To help them become familiar with the definitions, I have them do "Picture Vocabulary,” in which they are to draw a picture of the definition rather than copy the meaning. This will also help me to assess whether they truly understand what the term relates to.”~Science Teacher, FOR-PD Participant
