PLANNING AHEAD - NEW WEBCT & FACILITATOR TRAINING training

In the fall 2009 semester, FOR-PD will begin using the Webcourses@UCF server and newest version of WebCT/Blackboard.
In preparation for the event the FOR-PD team is in the process of rebuilding the Facilitator Training and Certification Course to incorporate information on the new course management system.

During the summer 2009 semester (the month of July) this new course will open only for active and currently trained facilitators to learn how to facilitate and use the tools in the new environment.  Facilitators will be asked to take only the lessons pertaining to the new system, but will be free to review the other lessons as a refresher if they so choose.

As you are planning ahead, please keep this training in mind. Only facilitators who have taken this training will be prepared to facilitate in the fall 2009 semester.

Stay tuned for further information!

NEW FOR-PD GROUP ON FACEBOOK

Last month FOR-PD created a page on Facebook where facilitators and participants could become ‘fans’ and information on new events could be posted. Now we have created a group you can join as well! The difference is, it will allow us to send an email to the Facebook invoice of all group members when important events happen!

Have a look and join today!

Mapping 21st Century Skills 21st Century Skills

In a previous newsletter (July 08) we shared how the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) had created a list of skills in an attempt to define those necessary for  21st century literacy. Now NCTE, in partnership with the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, has created a 21st-century skills map.

This map offers concrete suggestions for how to incorporate 21st-century skills into a traditional English curriculum in the 4th, 8th, and 12th grades. The map breaks down the skill sets into specific outcomes with tips on how to reach those goals.

This English map is just part of a bigger plan by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills to create similar maps for other core subject areas.

Read more about it here in Ed Week’s Digital Directions.

A PDF of the map is available here.

  • How can we read, write, communicate, and learn using technology, multimedia, and a variety of texts?
  • What does it look like in the classroom when you are working on 21st century skills?
  • How can we help students critically evaluate learn from information they access on the Internet?
  • How can we incorporate multiliteracies across the content areas?
  • How (and what) do students read and comprehend when they read online texts or using the Internet?
  • What are other teachers (K-12) doing to integrate new literacies in their classrooms?
